Are these live market prices?
This showcase starts with clearly labeled example USD prices that you can edit. They are for experimenting with the tool. The original project used a metals-price API; a live feed can be connected using an account controlled by the site owner.
How does the calculator work?
Metal value = weight in grams × purity fraction × the pure-metal price per gram. Gold uses nominal karat fractions, such as 18/24 for 18K. Silver and coin options use the selected fineness. Each line rounds to cents before the totals are summed.
What is the difference between grams, pennyweight, and troy ounces?
These are different units of mass. One troy ounce equals 31.1034768 grams, and one pennyweight equals 1.55517384 grams. The tool converts your input to grams before calculating value and keeps your original unit on the PDF.
Is the scenario an offer to buy my gold or silver?
No. The percentage demonstrates how a business could apply a pricing rule. The estimate excludes gemstones, collectible premiums, taxes, and processing costs. Use the total metal weight and declared purity; gold-filled or plated items need more information than a karat label alone.
