Mobile App Development for Purdue University
Technology: Objective-C, iOS Native Development
Project: Visual Analytics Law Enforcement Toolkit (iVALET)
Client: Purdue University
iVALET is an iOS application designed to give law enforcement officers and first responders real-time access to criminal, traffic, and civil incident data directly from their mobile devices.
Core Functionality
1. Real-Time Crime Data
The primary interface is built on the Google Maps SDK for iOS and displays live incident data as interactive map pins.
Users can customize which activity types are shown—such as criminal incidents or specific crime categories—through the app’s settings. Each pin can be expanded for detailed information, and the data automatically refreshes every 60 seconds while the app is active.
2. Historical Reports & Data Visualization
iVALET provides access to historical incident data based on user-defined date ranges.
Since the app does not store data locally, a network connection is required to load historical reports or refresh real-time information. An interactive timeline feature allows users to view how incident patterns change over time through a dynamic visual playback.
3. Predictive Forecasting
The app incorporates temporal prediction algorithms to forecast future criminal, traffic, and civil incident levels.
These forecasts operate within a 95% confidence interval, offering highly reliable projections that help agencies anticipate trends and make informed strategic decisions.
